1.19.19am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 25th Jun 2008

A poll 516 Christchurch electors for the 3rd July by-election shows that the Liberal Democrats are rapidly catching up with the Conservatives in Christchurch ward. Many lifelong Conservative supporters are using the by-election to protest at Conservative councillors giving themselves a back dated pay rise at the same time as axing hot Meals on Wheels for the elderly.

Many Labour supporters are switching to Lib Dem Oliver Brooks to beat the Conservative candidate, Labour have fallen from second place in the area at the last elections to a distant third, with many former Labour supporters saying they are disappointed with Gordon Brown.
