Labour neglect Welling Library again!

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 16th Oct 2004

Welling Library, which is much used by many residents in East Wickham and throughout Welling, has seen its refurbishment scrapped by Labour controlled Bexley Council.

Staff have been told that all they can have now is "new carpets and a lick of paint." If this wasn't bad enough, the work that was due to be done on the adjoining toilets has also been scrapped.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Nick O' Hare said, "Once again Welling Library has been neglected and overlooked. The Council can afford to spend out on a large amount of self-publicity and sham consultations, resulting in the closure of Barnehurst Library, and the moving of Blackfen Library, despite overwhelming public opposition, but can't afford to modernise Welling Library.

If that wasn't bad enough, the scrapping of the works on the toilets, particularly the ladies toilet is an absolute disgrace. Local residents have been let down by Labour again!"
