Setback over Welling Station approach

12.00.00am GMT Sat 6th Mar 2004

Labour controlled Bexley Council have failed to secure funding from Transport for London, for the purchase of the section of Station Approach that is needed to improve the access to Welling Station. As a result of this failure the cost of purchasing this land will spiral to £465,000.

If this wasn't enough, due to this increase, Bexley Council is refusing to clear the land of fly-tipped rubbish until the purchase goes through.

Cllr Nick O'Hare said, "Despite the fact that Labour now have 'Blair's Mayor', the failure to achieve funding is going to prove very expensive for East Wickham's Council Tax payers. However, the Council's refusal to clear the land despite many complaints from residents is truly disgraceful."
